Second Chance Had To Close Its Doors!

For the first time in 12 years, it became necessary for Second Chance to close its doors to new admissions. Although we did not turn away anyone who showed up, we did not answer our phone and changed our message to indicate we were unable to accept additional animals at this time. We suggested callers contact the Department of Natural Resources for other options. This was a very painful decision for us but we simply ran out of room. We remained closed from Tues., 5/29 through Sun., 6/3. During that time, we were able to release approximately 120 animals from our outdoor cages, move many indoor animals to the outside cages and, in general, spread out and rearrange the animals that had to remain inside. Your continued support and understanding through this crisis has been very much appreciated.

We encourage everyone to contact your state and/or county elected representatives to let them know how important it is for you to have a place to take distressed wildlife. It appears our officials do not understand that this is a necessary service. If you're not sure who your representatives are, check the blue pages of your phone book for the general information number to your county or state government. Wildlife rehabilitation centers will only be available if you speak up and demand this service.

Got Goat Milk?

Anyone who has dairy goats, we would be thrilled if they had goat milk to donate. This time of year we receive a lot of deer fawns and goat milk (fresh or frozen) seems to be the best thing to feed them. Of course, we would also welcome donations of goat milk from specialty grocery stores

We would like to thank several businesses for allowing us to place donation cans on site, thus helping us to help the animals and spread the word a little more. For a list of those businesses and their locations, go to the Donation Can Project page.
