EDUCATION &
ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM

Education & Engagement Program

Education is part of SCWC’s mission, and in March of 2026 we launched new efforts to educate people on how to protect wildlife, why doing so is important, and how to safely co-exist with your wildlife neighbors. Core elements of this program are presentations for community groups, senior centers, schools, businesses, scout troops, places of worship, etc. With this program we will also work to create a greater sense of community while helping animals by engaging people across the region to join us through volunteering, donation drives, creating gardens to help wildlife, and more.

For more information, scroll through this page and email Education@scwc.org. Please keep our phone lines open for animal rescue situations.

Presentations On-Site and at Your Location

Sessions are led by SCWC’s Manager of Education, CJ White. CJ has over 15 years of experience in wildlife education and loves sharing little known facts about Maryland’s wildlife and how everyone can help them in some way. Although we do not currently use ambassador animals, CJ uses feathers, bones, turtle shells, x-rays, and more to give audiences a new way to appreciate and learn about the wildlife species that live around us and the ones that SCWC works so hard to save, rehabilitate, and release.

Presentations currently being offered (with more to come), include:

  • 10 Simple Ways to Be a Good Wildlife Neighbor (for adults)
  • 5 Simple Ways to Be a Good Wildlife Neighbor (for kids)
  • Misunderstood Wildlife (for adults)
  • SCWC & the Hawks & Falcons of Maryland (adults)
  • SCWC & Owls of Maryland (adults)
  • SCWC & Owls of Maryland PLUS Owl Pellet Dissection activity (for adults, kids, or adults & a child)
We will bring the presentation to you, or, we can host groups up to 16 in our Education & Meeting Room on site in Clarksburg.

Donation Drives

We are touched that so many people offer to host donation drives at their schools, businesses, places of worship, and in their neighborhoods to provide SCWC with basic supplies that we’d otherwise have to purchase using our precious, limited resources. We always need paper towels, toilet paper, specific cleaning supplies, black & white newspaper. The list goes on and on. We also have an Amazon Wishlist that will send items directly to us.

For more information on how to set up a donation drive for SCWC and the items we need, email us at Education@scwc.org

Tabling Events

Education is a core part of SCWC’s mission. In March 2026, we launched expanded efforts to teach people how to protect wildlife, why it matters, and how to safely coexist with the animals around them. Our programs include presentations for community groups, schools, senior centers, businesses, scout troops, and places of worship.

We are available for community events and tabling opportunities to help spread awareness of our mission and the capabilities of our new facility, serving as a trusted resource for wildlife emergencies. Through this work, we aim to build stronger community connections while helping wildlife, encouraging involvement through volunteering, donation drives, creating wildlife-friendly gardens, and other day to day ways to make a difference.
